“Gordon Ramsay Italian Collection”
Take a winemaker who for years has traveled and worked in the four corners of the world like Alberto Antonini, and a chef who has restaurants and Michelin stars in the USA and UK, and has become popular thanks to TV, like Gordon Ramsay, and bring them together. The result is the “Gordon Ramsay Italian Collection”, a line of Italian wines produced with Benchmark Drinks for the Tesco supermarket chain, with three labels “signed” by Gordon Ramsay: a red (“Intenso Rosso 2020”), a white (“Vibrante Bianco 2020”) and a rosé (“Elegante Rosato 2020”), born from another singular encounter, that between two distant wine regions like Abruzzo and Tuscany.

Prosecco, Italian wine industry against the recognition of “Prosěk”
With almost 20 days to go before the deadline for submitting an opposition to the application for recognition of the “Prosek” to the European Union (the Italian opposition must be sent to the offices of the European Commission by November 21, ed.), the united institutional and political working group between the Ministry of Agriculture, the Veneto Region, the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region, protection consortia and wine sector organizations on the most urgent dossier on the table in the wine sector, which met to define the Italian strategy and position to be taken to counter the Croatian request, reiterates the united position of the Prosecco chain (and with it the whole Italian wine sector), which is obviously against the possibility offered by the EU Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, of recognizing the traditional term “Prosěk”. The points are well known by now, but it is worth repeating and reminding them. Recognition of “Prosěk” at European level would not only cause confusion among consumers but would also weaken the position of Prosecco, which has had the merit, since registration of the PDO in 2009, of investing and growing, becoming the bubbly of reference for wine lovers all over the world. This popularity would be exploited by the Croatian raisin wine without any merit, thus undermining the system for protecting EU designations of origin, which would need to be strengthened in view of the bilateral agreements that Europe has signed, and will sign, with other economies around the world. Beyond the questions of legislative and regulatory principle, which are obviously fundamental, there is one of an exquisitely historical nature (which does however have a legal value), recalled by the Coordinator of the Socialists & Democrats Group in the Agriculture Commission of the European Parliament in a question presented to the EU Agriculture Commissioner, Janusz Wojciechowski, citing what was in fact recognized by the EU itself at the time of registration of the PDO: the first documents in which Prosecco is mentioned date back to the 17th century and speak of a white wine that originated specifically in the area of the village of Prosecco (Trieste), called Prosek since the 16th century in the then administration of the Austro-Hungarian Empire ...

The “Grape Garden” is born at Muse
The Trento Grape Garden is a project of the Muse - Trento Science Museum, in collaboration with Cantina Endrizzi, the Trentodoc maison and more, which has focused on a sustainable demonstration vineyard in the “Museum’s biodiversity gardens”. The Muse’s demonstration vineyard features the most typical forms of vine training, and the vines present have been selected from among the ancient and modern varieties grown in Trentino, supplemented by some varieties resistant to the most common vine diseases (Johanniter B., Souvignier gris, Charvir, Pinot Regina, Nermantis and Pergola Termantis). “Sustainable agriculture is the best way to think about our landscape of today and tomorrow”, commented Michele Lanzinger, director of Muse.

“Barolo en Primeur”: 600,000 euros raised
The prestige of one of the most famous wines in the world, paired with a high-level wine project combining history, modernity, and solidarity. These are the ingredients of pre-announced success; that is, the first edition of “Barolo en Primeur”. Barolo was auctioned, still in the cask, with grapes from the historic Vigna Gustava from the Castello di Grinzane Cavour, zoned and vinified at the Enosis Meraviglia Center by the enologist and wine scientist, Donato Lanati. In the end, 600,000 euros were raised, offered by an international audience, in connection with New York, with Antonio Galloni’s Vinous, in support of 14 solidarity projects, matched with 14 barriques of Barolo Gustava from the 2020 vintage, as envisaged by the event, promoted by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo, with the Fondazione CRC Donare and the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Dogliani, staged on 30 October at Grinzane Cavour Castle. The most generous donation was to the Adas Foundation, which provides pain therapy at home: no less than 50,000 euro from AGC Glass Europe of Cuneo. But the record is for the tonneau of Barolo of the Municipality of Grinzane Cavour, added at the end of the auction by the Vice President of the CRC Foundation Ezio Raviola, beaten for the extraordinary sum of 140,000 euro.

Conterno the most awarded winery, Gaja the top producer: the verdicts of “Bibenda 2022”
Conterno, the cradle of the legendary Barolo Monfortino, is the single most awarded winery, with 4 wines (Barolo Monfortino Riserva 2015 and Barolo Arione, Francia and Cerretta 2017), followed by other prestigious wineries from all over Italy with 3 labels, from Gaja (which, with its Cà Marcanda and Pieve Restituta wineries, is the most awarded producer) to La Spinetta, from Cantina di Terlano to Duca di Salaparuta, from Girolamo Russo to Tasca d’Almerita, to Feudi di San Gregorio, and from many award-winning labels with two labels (see the in-depth analysis): here is the best of wines with the “Cinque Grappoli”, the highest award assigned by Bibenda, the guide of the Fondazione Italiana Sommelier (Fis), headed by Franco Maria Ricci, which also rewards restaurants with the “Cinque Baci”, as well as Italian oils and grappas that will be published online on November 20.
