Great wines and masterpieces of art to celebrate the friendship between Italy and Hong Kong
Nothing like a toast with a glass of great wine can celebrate a friendship, even between countries. And to pay homage to the 50 years of diplomatic relations between Italy and Hong Kong, a strategic market of Made in Italy in Asian countries, also for its role as a “showcase”, things get bigger. In the Year of Culture and Tourism Italy-China and the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, the Everlasting Wonder Gala Event (whose organization has been entrusted by the Government of Hong Kong to the Chinese-Italian Cultural Society), which will also seal a new collaboration between the Gallerie degli Uffizi in Florence, one of the most important museums in Italy and the world, and the Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA), will feature Italian wines, directed by Gelardini & Romani Wine Auction, the first Italian auction house specialized in wine and the only operator in the panorama of international auction houses to have guaranteed a “physical” event and not “only” online, in 2020, in Hong Kong, the Asian epicenter of the fine wines market, offering Italian wine visibility never reached before. And so, if the Uffizi Gallery will lend to the Hong Kong Museums 42 works of the Renaissance, including ten paintings by Sandro Botticelli, many will be the wine masterpieces protagonists. First will be held promotional events, with wine dinners in the best Italian restaurants in Hong Kong, dedicated, among others, to Sassicaia, Barbaresco di Gaja, the jewels of Antinori (Solaia and Tignanello), and Le Pergole Torte di Montevertine. On October 25th, then, grand finale, the Hong Kong Museum of Art which, for the occasion, will be closed to the public to allow the 400 paying VIPs (with tickets between 2,500 and 5. 000 euros per person) a private visit and a preview of the exhibition, followed by a gala dinner with Umbero Bombana, the only Italian 3 Michelin stars in Asia, and wines, strictly Tuscan - with the exception of Baron Pizzini’s Franciacorta - selected by the Master of Wine Sarah Heller, to pay homage to the cradle of the Renaissance, namely the Testamatta Bianco Isola del Giglio 2018 by Bibi Graetz 2018, the Igt Toscana Montevertine 2015 by Montevertine and the Brunello di Montalcino 2008 by Tenuta Greppo di Biondi Santi. All in view of an auction of the highest level, in the following weeks.

China, protection for 100 EU excellences
The framework, very broad, is that of the treaty between the European Union and China on Beijing investment in Europe, which aims to rebalance the trade balance between the two superpowers, which has been debated bilaterally for seven years now. The first step, hoping that it will prove to be preparatory to a global agreement, concerns the agreement signed three days ago - which will enter into force by the end of 2021 - for the protection and preservation of 100 European excellences in the agri-food industry. Among them 26 products made in Italy, and a lot of wine: Asti, Barbaresco, Bardolino Superiore, Barolo, Brachetto d’Acqui, Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti, Conegliano-Valdobbiadene-Prosecco, Dolcetto d’Alba, Franciacorta, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Soave, Tuscan wine (IGT Toscana), Nobile di Montepulciano.

Pinchiorri, at auction 24 unique large formats by Romanée Conti
Giorgio Pinchiorri still the protagonist of the world of wine auctions: on December 6th, in Geneva, 24 unique jewels of the world wine, 12 Jeroboam and 12 Mathusalem of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti will be at the auction at BagheraWines, including the number 1 unpublished labels on the “Millesime 1985” of the different crus of the Burgundy myth (Romanée-Conti, La Tache, Richerbourg, Echezaux, Grands Echezeaux and Romaneé St Vivant), universally recognized as one of the greatest vintages of the twentieth century, which have never moved from the cellar of the Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence, Michelin-starred temple of high Italian gastronomy, with the sole exception of the year 2011, when they were brought back to the Domaine to be sealed with new wax and to renew their “youth”. Absolutely the most valuable prices, with an estimated value of 2 million Swiss francs (around 1.8 million euros) of the “Kingdoms” auction, which will be beaten by the Swiss auction house. An auction, that follows a few weeks after the one held in recent days at Zachy’s, for its debut in Europe, in London, where 2,500 bottles of the boundless collection of Enoteca Pinchiorri have collected the sum of 3.2 million pounds.

Italian grape harvest, all is well in the middle of the ford
There are those who have already finished and those who have just started. The grape harvest in the Belpaese lives its climax. WineNews has photographed the moment through the voice of the Consortia and wineries throughout the peninsula. In Montalcino, for example, the harvest of Brunello began a few days ago, with the Sangiovese grapes healthy and ripe, thanks also to the latest rains, while in Alto Adige the harvest has been going on for days, with great expectations. And while at Bellavista, the Moretti family’s Franciacorta label is celebrating the end of the harvest with a pressing using the “old” marmonier presses, at Monte Zovo, the Cottini family’s Valpolicella label, it will be a long harvest for each single vineyard, in order to make the most of the identity of each terroir and vine, and at Planeta, in Sicily, the first positive balances are being made, halfway through the harvest.
