Bolgheri unveils the 2019 “en primeur”
In the sixties of the twentieth century, at Tenuta San Guido, with the birth of Sassicaia, the Marchesi Incisa della Rocchetta, with the oenologist Giacomo Tachis, invented a “wine of the future” capable of igniting the spark for the birth and success of Bolgheri, which today has 65 wineries, 1,350 hectares of vineyards and 6.5 million bottles produced. On which, with a modification of the disciplinary already voted, the word “Toscana” will appear on the label. The most eagerly awaited novelty, however, is in the bottle, with the Bolgheri Superiore 2019 and Bolgheri Rosso 2020 that will be unveiled, “en primeur”, on September 4th in the iconic wineries of the territory.

Liv-ex Classification 2021: the definitive high jump of Italian fine wines
For many years, the collectible wine market has had a point of reference recognized by everyone - collectors, wine merchants, auction houses, companies - founded at the beginning of the third millennium by James Miles and Justin Gibbs, two brokers from the City with a passion for wine: Liv-ex, for which quotations, performance and news are now passed on through the analysis of the trend of over 16,000 labels from all over the world. Since 2009, they have been collected in a classification that recalls that of Bordeaux in 1855: five classes, divided, just as in those days, by price ranges. A classification that, every two years, is revised and updated, opening the doors to more and more territories and wineries, among those that - between July 2020 and June 2021 - have seen at least 15 exchanges of 5 or more vintages. Compared to 2019, the Liv-ex 1000, the index that aggregates all the others, has grown overall by +6.36%, with average price trends moving up the entry bar for all five classes of the new “Liv-ex Classification 2021”. In all, there are 349 wines classified, from France, Italy, the U.S., Australia, Portugal, Spain, Chile and Germany, with 83 Italian wines, more than double the 2019 figure, thanks to growth led by Brunello di Montalcino and Barolo, with 18 and 21 labels, respectively, in the new classification. In the first tier, among wines costing from £3,060 per case upwards, there are 72 labels in all, of which no less than 11 are Italian, 8 more than 2019, despite the overall decline, as there were 77 wines in the first tier two years ago. Starting with the confirmations of Bruno Giacosa Barolo Vigna Rocche Riserva (£4,601 per case), Masseto (£5,716) and Biondi Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (£3,441), joined by Bartolo Mascarello’s Barolo (£3,444), Bruno Giacosa’s Barbaresco Asili Riserva (£3. 653 pounds), Barolo Monvigliero Comm. G. B. Burlotto (4,325 pounds), Barbaresco Costa Russi (3,142 pounds), Barbaresco Sorì San Leonardo (3,216 pounds) and Barbaresco Sorì Tildin (3,147 pounds) by Gaja, Barolo Monfortino Riserva by Giacomo Conterno (8,816 pounds) and Soldera Case Basse (4,661 pounds).
